The story behind the Clouds
It took some time to find where I had stored the burned books that I had collected, it had been
some years. I was working at the Washington Project for the arts, but I also did some day jobs,
doing manual labor to make quick cash. On one of those jobs we where required to clean up the
remains of a house fire. It had been a dreadful catastrophe that caused great damage as I
remember. Amongst the ruins were a great many books, and here scorched and wet I found the
holy books. The Bible, Quran and Tora. There where other books but these- these where priceless.
I remember carefully rapping the burned remains in plastic and taking them with me. I aired them
out to dry and later packed them away. Having found the books, I found no use for them -untill 9/11
After 9/11 I was driven to produce a number of works
The clouds came out of this series of works
To me it is the trashing of humanity
The diminished value of human life and the destruction of all things holy
to me it was the sudden vision made art to see the billowing black Clouds- the uncounted
pages-burning, fluttering in horrid collapse to the ground.
It took some time to find where I had the burned books but they where there and the art came to be.

"Of course all of that is revisionist history and a lie!"
